2007 CalChess Scholastic Championships -- PAGE 4

Over 1150 players and their parents, coaches and friends descended on the fairgrounds at the San Mateo Expo Center on April 28-29 for the 32nd CalChess Scholastics Championships. Of the players, 20 were active students of mine, 3 were former students and several more were part of teams that I help coach. Two students became state champions: K-12 Champ Danya Naroditsky (5.5/6) and K-8 Champ Steven Zierk (6.0/6)! The tournament wouldn't have been possible without the capable organization of Dr. Alan Kirshner and his staff of directors led by John McCumiskey and Richard Koepcke.
