2007 CalChess Scholastic Championships -- PAGE 3

Over 1150 players and their parents, coaches and friends descended on the fairgrounds at the San Mateo Expo Center on April 28-29 for the 32nd CalChess Scholastics Championships. Of the players, 20 were active students of mine, 3 were former students and several more were part of teams that I help coach. Two students became state champions: K-12 Champ Danya Naroditsky (5.5/6) and K-8 Champ Steven Zierk (6.0/6)! The tournament wouldn't have been possible without the capable organization of Dr. Alan Kirshner and his staff of directors led by John McCumiskey and Richard Koepcke. Photos by Richard Shorman and Mark Shelton of www.chessdryad.com plus Michael Aigner.
